LIVING IN ABUNDANCE MENTALITY
When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. (Deuteronomy 24:19 NIV)
Born as slaves and grew up in scarcity, they were two possible attitudes: 1) fear of not having enough, and 2) store as much as possible when there is oppportunity.
It took 40 years for God to cure these ancient Isralites from this 'scarcity mentality'. Everyday God dropped manna from heaven. They could only take just enough for one day supply and to trust God for the next day... It would be rotten if they took more than what they needed. The cure worked this way,
First, they need to know that their God is the Jehovah Jireh, who will supply all their needs. The aboundant life can only be found in Him. Knowing this should put our heart at rest, wecan count on our God.
Second, they need to experience grace that is to know that their God is a merciful God, full of grace. It's true that life is tough, our fellow humans often make it even tougher, but all will be well when we're living in God's presence. God works on the principle of grace.
As God's people they have to apply this principle to others as well. The harvest will be more than enough for their needs.
They don't have to grab everything their eyes can see. Instead, they need to reflect God's mercy and generosity esp to the less fortunate among them. To live with an abundance mentality, trusting that God will always supply our needs. There will be more than enough supplies (blessings) even for us to share with others, esp those who are less fortunate than us.
Giving is the simplest action that remind us that we have and will
